HUMAIRA Ansari knows what it takes to make a fresh start.
The Berwick resident was born in Afghanistan, before spending 15 years in Pakistan and then moving to Canada to study and start a career.
Humaira, a Master Hypnotherapist, has now helped the Casey community find a new lease on life after she held free empowerment and weight loss sessions at Berwick Healthcare this week.
“There is a need for this support and there needs to be awareness that help is out there, and awareness that people can do it themselves,” Humaira, 37, said.
“People feel sort of helpless, especially when they get into habits that they can’t change.”
Humaira, a strong advocate for change in one’s life, said most people came to her to stop addictions such as smoking, while many also sought relief for their anxiety.
“I lived in Pakistan for 15 years, then I went to Canada to study, then moved to Manchester – the reason I’m so passionate is because I know change can happen,” she said.
“The people who come from my background, the same upbringing as me, they may live with such despair, but I have changed so much in my life through decision-making and choices.
“Every single one of us has the power in ourselves.”
Humaira said the biggest changes she brought upon herself were instigated by immersing herself in different cultures.
And she is now urging Casey residents who feel restricted to take a similar leap of faith.
“The main change for me was moving from different cultures, adapting to these cultures and embracing the changes,” Humaira said.
“When you don’t live in your own country it’s very difficult, the things I didn’t have that people take for granted – there was a lot of trauma.
“Things like fresh air, peace, comfort and a warm bed.
“I want people to take advantage of their opportunities when they come up.”
