Seniors get autumn makeover

DANCING, indoor bowls and day-trips are just some of the exciting plans being developed to attract new members to Berwick’s senior citizens club.
The Autumn Over 55 Club is the new title for the group that meets every Friday for a three-course meal and other enjoyable activities.
Members of the club recently voted on a new name for their fun-loving society that more appropriately reflects their membership base.
New president Charles Richards said there was a stigma attached to the senior citizens term and he hoped the fresh name would give the club a new lease on life.
“We have about 70 members at the moment and we really want to get more people involved in all the sessions we hold,” Mr Richards said.
Membership levels at the club have dropped to their lowest level for several years and the president and his committee members are keen to change the concerning trend.
Mr Richards encouraged anyone who wanted to see what all the fun was about to drop-in when members meet every Friday.
“Even if they just pop in for a cup of tea they are more than welcome.”
Members of The Autumn Over 55 Club meet at the club’s High Street building every Friday from 11am.
