Light shines on teen nightclub

CASEY teenagers will be dancing up a storm in the safe environment of an underage Berwick nightclub.
A licence to hold the night at the Blitz Nightclub at Berwick Springs was granted last week after intensive campaigning by local police, the City of Casey and community groups.
Organisers are hoping to attract teenagers from the 14 to 17-year-old age group and provide them with a safe, alcohol-free environment where they can dance and socialise.
The first event will take place on Sunday, 5 November.
Berwick Springs owner Sam Castello said any profit from the underage evenings would be distributed back into the community to support other youth programs throughout Casey.
“I am happy to take this opportunity to give something back to a community which has traditionally been very supportive of the Berwick Springs establishment,” Mr Castello said.
The night is planned to start at 6pm and finish at 10pm with organisers hoping to stage the event once a month on a Sunday.
Underage nightclubs have worked successfully in surrounding municipalities – with parents expected to play a part by dropping off and picking up nightclub goers.
Endeavour Hills Senior Sergeant Mike Jenkins said all alcohol and related advertising will be removed from the venue that will hold 600 youngsters.
“One thing we would like parents to do is to check that the night is not sold out before they drop their kids off,” Sen Sgt Jenkins said.
Organisers are asking interested community members to be part of a committee to help plan and oversee the Blitz Nightclub underage events.
