Club aims to kick on

THE Mossgiel Park Junior Football Club is one that’s keeping busy in the off-season.
With a new committee in place, led by president Colin Beech, the club is on a course of self-improvement before season 2009.
The committee consists almost entirely of players’ parents and as assistant secretary Ben Dwan explained, has big plans for the coming season.
“We’re looking at increasing our affiliation with the Hawthorn Football Club – working on getting a bit more Hawk presence down there this year,” he said.
“We’re also affiliated with the Rowville Senior Football Club and we’re hoping to get a bit more of their presence down at the clubrooms this year.”
Having struggled with player numbers in season 2008, the club was forced to merge some teams with sides from Endeavour Hills.
Dwan said the club was looking at boosting player numbers in 2009, with the aim of adding an extra three or four teams.
“We want to get back up to nine or ten teams, just to get more kids off the street and playing footy,” he said.
Dwan appealed for any kids wanting to play football to give the club a go and also asked any prospective coaches to get on down to the club.
“Any boy or girl looking to play football at a family club with a couple of good affiliations, we’re hoping to increase numbers and get kids (to) play footy.”
Player registration day is on 20 February.
