FRIENDSHIP Day is an initiative close to Carlos Loyola’s heart.
As coach of the Doveton Special Soccer School, Carlos pioneered the event which sees students from a range of different special schools meet each other and get involved in a day full of soccer matches and competitions.
Coach Loyola said this year’s Friendship Day, held on Friday 1 November, was one of the biggest events on his club’s 2013 calendar and that it didn’t disappoint.
“The Friendship Day means a lot, this was part of my dream for many years,” coach Loyola said.
“We had to stop the day for a few years and it’s been my dream to get it back.
“It was fantastic.”
The Friendship Day took place at Waratah Reserve in Doveton allowing participants from several special schools to compete in soccer matches across a range of different divisions.
The schools involved in this year’s event included Naranga Ashwood, Berendale, Emerson, Marenbek, Wangaratta and Doveton.
An Opening Ceremony kicked proceedings off at 10.20am before the games got underway for the rest of the morning and afternoon.
Coach Loyola also said he wouldn’t have been able to put the event on again without the help of several organisations, including Blairlogie Living and Learning and Wallara Industries, just to name a few.
