INVESTMENT in public transport and the protection of Victoria’s AAA credit rating are the priority agenda items for the Liberals’ newly selected candidate for Narre Warren South.
Casey councillor Susan Serey was last week chosen as the party’s candidate for this year’s state election, joining her fellow councillors Geoff Ablett and Amanda Stapledon in standing for the Liberals at the November poll.
“(My priority is) to be a passionate local voice, committed to the electorate of Narre Warren South, supporting the Coalition’s commitments for improved infrastructure and services such as the $2.5 billion investment into public transport, as well as the extension of Zone 1 which will save families over $750 on an annual Myki ticket,” she said.
“Also, protecting the state’s AAA credit rating will be important to the future of both Narre Warren South and Victoria – we need a strong economy.”
Cr Serey, currently serving her first term with the council, said her relatively short time with the City of Casey had equipped her well for state politics and rejected suggestions that her Liberal candidacy would affect her ability to fulfil her council role.
“My time on council has taught me a lot and, with the support of the community here, I would be honoured to have the opportunity to represent my community in Parliament,” she said.
Current Narre Warren South MP Judith Graley, who would not comment on Cr Serey’s candidature, said she would “continue to fight for the people of Narre Warren South”.
At the 2010 state election Ms Graley achieved 50.25 per cent of the vote to Liberal candidate and current Casey councillor Gary Rowe’s 41.07 per cent, with the greens on 8.68 per cent.
Casey mayor and Liberal candidate Geoff Ablett will contest the seat of Cranbourne while deputy Amanda Stapledon will stand for the party in Narre Warren North.
