AN ISLAMIC school has bought the former Doveton North Primary School site for $4.2 million.
A spokesman for Assistant Treasurer Gordon Rich-Phillips today (Thursday) confirmed that the 20,420 square metre site had been purchased by Ilim College of Australia.
It is believed the college will use the existing buildings at the site for its own school facility.
Fitzroys agent Dean Alexander, who handled the sale on behalf of the State Government, said the agency had received eight tenders for the property, which was sold in excess of the reserve price.
“Half of the inquiries came from occupiers looking to use the property as a school, utilising the existing buildings on site, and the other half were looking to use the property for residential development,” he said.
