STUDENTS from across Casey will light up the stage in a musical extravaganza this month.
Budding entertainers from seven local schools will compete against each other to be crowned the 2014 Schools on Stage champions on Thursday 11 September.
Each school will perform two songs from their musical in front of a packed crowd and judges at the Hillcrest Theatre in Clyde North.
City of Casey Mayor Geoff Ablett said audiences will be blown away by an exceptional line-up of performances.
“The audience should be prepared to take a musical rollercoaster through a number of diverse and energetic numbers from Jesus Christ Superstar to Hairspray,” he said.
“You can fall in love to the music from Beauty and the Beast, get lost down the rabbit hole with Alice in Wonderland and get up and about with Footloose – whatever you fancy there’s something to enjoy.”
Well known entertainer Tim Campbell will host this year’s event for the fourth time in a row.
“Tim has entertained audiences as an actor, television host and star of musical theatre productions,” Cr Ablett said.
“He has appeared in Logie award-winning drama House Husbands as Tom Parker.
“This dynamic combination of emerging and renowned talent is a master recipe for a spectacular night of entertainment.
“I look forward to celebrating the fantastic talent of Casey’s young people, and seeing who the judges select as their overall winner.”
Schools involved in the year’s event are Alkira Secondary College, Cranbourne East Secondary College, Cranbourne Secondary College, Fountain Gate Secondary College, Gleneagles Secondary College, Hillcrest Christian College and Kooweerup Secondary College.
The concert will be held on Thursday 11 September from 7.30pm.
