STUDENTS throughout Casey have been recognised for their community leadership this week by Holt MP Anthony Byrne.
Some 46 students from 45 locals were congratulated on Monday night at the 2014 Holt Community Spirit and Leadership Awards held at the Cranbourne Community Theatre.
“These awards recognise the outstanding contribution made by the students and the difference their hard work and dedication has made to their schools and the wider community,” Mr Byrne said.
“On Monday night we heard outstanding stories of students going above and beyond to help others including Casey Lowen who has been a key member of the Helping Hands catering group at Narre Warren South P-12 College.
“Casey was also involved in the Walk for Andrea – a VCAL fundraising walk from Narre Warren South to Flinders Streeet Station, spanning 48km, which raised over $5000 for Breast Cancer Awareness.”
Another example of community spirit had been shown by sisters Rachel and Kelly Jones from Beaconhills College, who were awarded on Monday for raising $1700 after their PE teacher, the late Scott McConchie, was diagnosed with terminal brain tumours.
The Holt Community Spirit and Leadership Awards is an event convened annually by Mr Byrne to celebrate the positive contributions young people have made in the local community.
