THE Narre Warren Seniors are known to be partial to a sing-a-long.
This didn’t change last week when the group made sure they were at their singing best in time for Christmas.
The seniors held their annual Christmas party last Wednesday to a continuing backdrop of musical entertainment, including ‘Birth of the Blues’ performed by Eileen Knights, ‘Danny Boy’ performed by Dennis Lamb, and ‘Enjoy Yourself’ performed by Muriel Clancy.
A lovely duet of ‘Have you ever been lonely’ was also sung by Inday Houghton and Henry Todd, while Brian Ludbrook sang a George Formby favourite and played his banjo.
Dale Abbott then sang ‘Good luck charm’ with a chorus backing him, and Lawrence Kee gave a moving rendition of ‘Some enchanted evening’.
But senior Bernadette Gonsalvez said the singing solo from President Cyril Gonsalvez, who performed ‘Delilah’, stole the show.
“Some of our ladies thought he was really Tom Jones, and yes – tossed some undergarments at him!” she laughed.
“The finale was a rousing chorus of ‘I still call Australia home’ with Australian flags waving.
“Our delicious Christmas lunch was followed by the spinning wheel with heaps of prizes.”
The sing-a-long stars finished the afternoon in true Christmas spirit by performing a range of carols.
Narre Warren Seniors will open their doors for 2015 on Wednesday 21 January.
