Anti-violence message intoned

Eden and Georgia played a beautiful version of ‘You Make Me Feel Like A Natural Woman’ at the launch.

MUSIC can be stronger than the spoken word.
And while ministers and MPs alike spoke truly and evocatively about the destructive nature of family violence last week, and its prevalence in Casey, it was a couple of musical performances by high school students that really seemed to drive home the message.
Family Violence Prevention Minister Fiona Richardson joined Narre Warren South MP Judith Graley at Kambrya College in Berwick on Friday to launch the Say NO to Family Violence campaign, which will roll out across many Casey schools and community organisations.
Kambrya studens Eden and Georgia opened proceedings with a sobering rendition of ‘You Make Me Feel Like A Natural Woman’, while their peers Sarah and Lauren closed proceedings with a fitting acoustic version of ‘Roar’ by Katy Perry.
The campaign encouraged Kambrya students to create banners promoting the initiative, and in the process they discussed the issue regularly with art teacher Deborah Russo, who at the launch admitted she had not known the extent of the damning Casey statistics.
