BEHIND every corner at Narre Warren North Primary School white laboratory coats could be spotted mixing colours and solving puzzles.
It was the school’s week of all things science and maths, and on Wednesday 2 September the whole school dressed up as mathematicians or scientists – ready to embark on a fun day of learning.
Grade 1 teacher Amy Nash said the week was a fantastic opportunity to concentrate on science and that they used everyday household items to construct something that moved.
“Today my Grade 1 students have been practising acceleration using milk, food dye and dishwashing detergent.
“When you dip the dishwashing detergent in the food dye it repels it and runs away and the students get to watch their balloon boat fly across the water,” Ms Nash explained.
When the students weren’t buttoning up their lab coats, straightening their glasses and suspenders they were practising their numeracy skills with dice games and mathematical problem solving.
