King of the keys … at 10

Steven, right, and his older brother Michael are very talented young pianists.

WHEN Steven Widjaja plays the piano, it’s hard to believe he’s only 10 years old.
The Hampton Park boy recently captivated two different audiences with his remarkable piano skills.
The first was at last month’s Casey’s Got Talent event, where Steven won the special instrumentalist category.
And the second audience was at the Casey Council chambers last week, where Steven was invited to play on the back of his winning performance.
David Widjaja, Steven’s dad, said his son started playing the piano at the age of six, as he looked to follow in the footsteps of his older 11-year-old brother, Michael.
“When Michael started playing piano I asked Steven if he wanted to, I thought maybe he’d also want to play,” David said.
“I let them have piano lessons and they’re still playing – sometimes they play solo and then sometimes they play a duet together.
“I’m very proud.”
The pair compete in regular piano competitions, while they also made it through to the producer’s audition for the reality television series ‘Australia’s Got Talent’.
It’s safe to say anyone who has watched Steven and Michael play is awed by the amount of talent exhibited by both of them at such a young age.
“Their piano teacher is very impressed with their progress,” David said.
