FANS of the hit book and film The Dressmaker were thrilled to meet author Rosalie Ham at a Casey-Cardinia Library Corporation event on 26 May.
Rosalie was accompanied by the film producer Sue Maslin.
More than 200 fans turned out to hear about how the Gothic tale, set in the fictional town of Dungatar, came about.
Rosalie explained her own small town upbringing in Jerilderie, NSW, provived the framework for the setting, characters and plot.
Rosalie was an extra in the film, which she told the audience was a huge thrill.
More than 180,000 copies of the book have been sold.
Sue spoke about the process of translating the book to the big screen.
Once she obtained the rights to produce the film, Sue then had to source a director, cast, location and of course investors. This process took several years even though the movie only took eight weeks to film. To date the film has grossed over $25 million.
There was a lively Q & A session after which Rosalie and Sue signed books and posed for photographs.
