Live, raw, young bands are now thumping the stage in Narre Warren.
Carlo Paduano and James Slacik have launched R!OT Melbourne, bringing a monthly showcase of the best Australian and local bands to Melbourne’s south-east.
“This was something I was very passionate about,” Mr Paduano said.
“I was getting sick of having to travel to the city and Brunswick to see live bands.”
A crowd of 450 flocked inside Empire Nightclub for the first R!OT boasting a line-up led by alt-rock band The Getaway Plan.
On 6 July, things get heavier with metal bands Void of Vision, Earthcaller, Dregg and Thornhill. They are supported by DJs and ‘carnivale’ dancers.
“This is an opportunity to put on live music on a regular basis,” Mr Paduano said.
Growing up as a Cranbourne teenager, he says there were Spectrum and FReeZA live events. He does not know why the live-music scene dropped off the map.
Since putting the call out on Facebook, R!OT has been overwhelmed by interest from bands all over Casey.
“It’s got to the point I’m having to tell people we’ll keep your band on file.”
R!OT Carnivale is at Empire, 14-22 Lauderdale Road, Narre Warren, on Thursday 6 July, from 8pm-late. $15 entry.
