Cranbourne set for run chase

CRANBOURNE’S turf-one team is set for a 337 run chase this week after a good bowling performance against the star-studded Springvale South on Saturday.
After hitting some classy opposition, hard work and the spin bowling of Steve Miller (3/102 off 24 overs) got the team back into the game.
Matthew Moore, with four wickets, cleaned up the tail to keep the score down at the lightning-quick Casey Fields.

Batting first, Cranbourne’s top order had a lot of starts but had to wait until skipper Rodger Alister strode to the crease to find a batsman to capitalise.
Following on his recent good form Rodger was stranded on 93 not-out following a good partnership with Cam Kelly (20).
With the ball, Cranbourne burst out of the gates with young firebrand Jason Toan at one stage having the figures of 3/0.

Batting this week, Cranbourne’s inning was dominated by two batsmen.
In his first game in A-grade Tony Ciantar proved he was up to the standard and then some compiling a commanding 113.
Stalwart Peter Kelly, who was recently inducted into Cranbourne’s team of the past 30 years, put on 185 runs with Tony and led from the front to finish on 85 not-out.

Cranbourne batted first and after losing quick early wickets dug in to post a good score.
The stars with the bat were Chris Lamb, who got to 79 and was unluckily run out in sight of his century.
Silvio Marinelli stuck with him for a 101-run partnership contributing 49 himself and Shannon Parkin got 36.
At the end some cultured hitting got Stuart Mills to 26 not-out.

The pick of the bowlers was wily young spinner Chris Hale who took 4/23.

Cranbourne batted first against one of their main rivals Coomoora.
Openers Gavin Roscoe (55) and Al Courtney (48) got the team off to a great start that was capitalised on by Ash Ryan (31), Craig Lambden (28) and Freddy Andrews (28).
Cranbourne backed up its good batting with excellent bowling, in main by crafty Wayne Stephens (3/40) and Chris Taylor (2/59).

Bowling first Cranbourne performed superbly with the catching being a highlight of the day.
Ben Hall opened the bowling and dominated early with 4/25, while Aaron Morrison came on at the end and finished it off with 2/10.
With only 20 overs to face, Cranbourne has already won with some aggressive batting from Dean McDonnell (38), Cam Kelly (44) and Dustin Peebles (26) carrying it over the line.
