Cranbourne bats buckle

A POOR performance by Cranbourne’s turf-one batsmen saw it fail to overhaul a moderate total of 150 by Parkfield on Saturday.
Cranbourne started well, bowling tightly and fielding well, restricting Parkfield to 9/150 off its 40 overs. Ross Woodall and Danny Diwell both took three wickets. What should have been an achievable target was quickly out of reach as poor shot selection saw all batsmen waste the chance to post a win. Parkfield 9/150cc defeated Cranbourne 75.

Playing Parkfield at home, Cranbourne posted a healthy 6/182 off its 40 overs with Andrew Toan returning to form with a classy 45 and being well supported by Brad Stephens and first game Welsh star Simon Cole, both scoring 35. The bowling and fielding however let Cranbourne down and allowed Parkfield to score with ease to record a victory. Parkfield 3/189 defeated Cranbourne 6/186cc.

Playing away at Maranatha, the Cranbourne batsmen smashed the opposition all over the park to reach 6/278 off their overs.
Talented youngster Dustin Peebles and wily veteran Matt Johns both scored 70s. Maranatha was never in the hunt and was restricted to 7/181. Promising junior leg spinner Troy Kimball took 3/46. A good win to remain in finals’ contention. Cranbourne 6/278 defeated Maranatha Methodist 7/181.

A good overall performance saw Cranbourne amass 6/182 off its allotted overs.
Consistent batting from Richard Young (39) and a great partnership between Adam Hanger and Steve Redgen (both 36 not out) put Cranbourne in a strong position. In reply Maranatha managed only 128, with some hostile bowling from pace machine Luke King (2/17) being well supported by Silvio Marinelli who also took two wickets. Cranbourne 6/182 defeated Maranatha Methodist 128.

In a thrilling game of cricket Cranbourne played Buckley Ridges at Camms Reserve.
Buckley batted first and on the back of some big hitting amassed a formidable 6/247.
Ryan Jones and Daniel Fox both bowled well to take two wickets. Cranbourne lost two quick wickets to be seemingly out of contention, but a great third-wicket partnership of 154 between captain Ben Corrie (68) and Chris Lamb (85) saw the game back in the balance.
Some lusty hitting towards the end by Clinton Fraser and Nick Kelly got Cranbourne over the line in the last over for an excellent win. Cranbourne 7/256 defeated Buckley Ridges 6/247.

Playing Lynbrook at Camms Reserve, Cranbourne bowled first and restricted the opposition to 6/217 on a very fast outfield.
The bowlers were too loose apart from Denis Kimball who took 1/11 off eight overs.
The fielders stuck to the task manfully with two excellent run outs and at tea the game was open to both sides. Glen Dickenson led from the front with a well-compiled 80 and the game came down to the last over with Cranbourne falling one run short. Lynbrook 6/217 defeated Cranbourne 7/216.

Playing another top-four side, Cranbourne dominated proceedings from the start. Scoring at more than seven runs per over, Cranbourne amassed a score of 261 with Craig Lambden (63), Chris Taylor (59) and Ash Ryan (40) being the best of the bats. In reply Fountain Gate was held to 9/171, Craig Lambden having a great match, taking 3/20. Cranbourne 261 defeated Fountain Gate 9/171.

A good win against Hampton Park despite a less-than-impressive bowling and fielding effort. Hampton Park amassed a huge score of 3/149 off only 21 overs. In reply Cranbourne got over the line in the last over, Cam Kelly with a half century and Dustin Peebles with 34 being the main contributors. Cranbourne 5/158 defeated Hampton Park 3/149cc.

A strong batting performance saw Cranbourne account for Narre North. Adam Hanger (28) and Cam Petrie (25) led the team to a good score of 9/140. Narre North was held to 8/102 in reply with Sameera Wickramasinghe destroying the middle order taking 3/5.
Cranbourne 9/140 defeated Narre Warren North 8/102.

Bowling first Cranbourne put in a good effort to keep Maranatha to 9/113. Sean Keenan, Shehan De Mel and Matt Weller both taking two wickets.
Cranbourne struggled in reply, only managing 6/84. Sean Keenan continued his great season with 20 and was well supported by Lucas Campbell (19). Maranatha Methodist 9/113 defeated Cranbourne 6/84.

Playing away, Cranbourne batted first and was quickly in trouble at 5/19. A great partnership between Anthony Galley (28) and Denis Stone (37 not out) allowed the team to reach a competitive 8/119. The defensive skills displayed in the field were outstanding and held Endeavour Hills to 7/77 with every player making a contribution. Cranbourne 8/119 defeated Endeavour Hills 7/77.

Maranatha batted and scored 4/114 against a lacklustre Cranbourne attack. Needing some good partnerships to match the target only Jordyn Baker with an excellent 25 looked like amassing the required score. Maranatha Methodist 4/114 defeated Cranbourne 5/84.

Batting first at Camms Reserve, Cranbourne struggled to post a competitive target.
James Lesch, Mitchell Gowland and Alex Luscombe all got good starts, but no other batsmen got going. Although the score was 9/85, the effort in the field was first class and the game came down to the last over with Buckley Ridges just getting over the line. Buckley Ridges 7/89 defeated Cranbourne 9/85.

Looking to continue the recent good form, Cranbourne batted first and struggled to reach 5/62 from 20 overs. Jordan Campbell (20) and Anooj Saddatisse (15) batted well. In reply Maranatha reached the target easily with only Martin Daly bowling the required line and length to take 2/4. Maranatha Methodist 5/98 defeated Cranbourne 5/62.

Looking to continue its unbeaten run, Cranbourne put in a solid batting effort to score a good total of 5/117, with some excellent running between the wickets being a feature. Harley Miller top scored with 25 not out and was well supported by Luke Bartlett with 21.
In reply Maranatha was held to 4/77 with some tight bowling and great wicketkeeping ensuring the win. Todd Reynolds continuing his improvement, taking two wickets. Cranbourne 5/117 defeated Maranatha Methodist 4/77.
