Junior umpires wanted

DANDENONG Ranges Junior Football League will kick off its 35th year with an increase in players, but is in need of umpires.
The league is made up of 15 clubs throughout the Dandenong Ranges and the Yarra Valley, stretching from Yarra Glen and Healesville in the north, to Gembrook and South Belgrave in the south and from Wesburn in the east to Upwey in the west.
It includes towns along the Warburton Highway and through the Hills communities.
Nearly 2000 children take part in age groups from under-10 to under-16 with games played on Sundays from 8.30am to 4.30 pm.
League president Doug Evans said clubs strictly enforced a code of conduct and was known for its good behaviour.
“This is evidenced by the fact that we haven’t had to convene a tribunal to consider any reported players for more than two years,” he said.
“This is also due to the quality of our umpires and the use of our send-off rules.”
Mr Evans said that there was always a need for more umpires and anyone thinking of taking it up, tuition from experienced personnel under the direction of 300-game former AFL and VFL umpire Peter Cameron was available.
Interested men or women can contact Nick LePlastrier on 9761 1659.
