Morland unlikely to face criminal charges

NARRE Warren Police say it is unlikely that Casey councillor Mick Morland will face criminal charges over allegations he took alcohol from the council offices.
Detective Senior Sergeant Ian Wilcox of Narre Warren CIU said the matter was still under police investigation but it did not appear anyone would be charged with any criminal offence.
He said police had spoken to, but had not interviewed, Cr Morland in relation to the matter.
The Edrington Ward councillor has denied any wrongdoing since his name was publicly revealed.
A subcommittee comprising mayor Kevin Bradford, Cr Rob Wilson, CEO Mike Tyler and manager of corporate services Steve Dalton has also been formed to consider the operation and use of facilities within councillors’ rooms.
Councillors recently voted to wait until they received the findings of another investigation – into whether Cr Paul Richardson breached the Local Government Act by releasing confidential information to the media – before dealing with the matter involving Cr Morland.
