Plant announcement ‘good news’

THE State Government’s decision to build a desalination plant in South Gippsland will help the high growth area of Casey, according to a local MP.
Narre Warren South MP Judith Graley has applauded the Bracks Government decision to increase the state’s water supplies.
“Narre Warren South is a growing area with dozens of young families moving here every week, and this announcement is great news for them,” Ms Graley said.
“We will all benefit from $4.9 billion investment in Australia’s largest desalination plant, major irrigation upgrades and an expansion of the Victorian Water Grid.”
Ms Graley said the second phase of the water strategy, announced last week by Premier Steve Bracks, would deliver the single biggest boost to Victoria’s water supplies in decades.
“This investment will provide long-term security for all of Melbourne, especially this local area, and will ensure that Victoria’s economy and population can continue to grow,” she said. “Saving water has become a feature of our local community.
“I urge people wanting to save more water at home to contact your local water authority to exchange your old showerhead for a free water-efficient one.”
Community information sessions on the second stage of the Our Water Our Future plan will begin soon. For futher details visit www.ourwater.vic.gov.au or call 136 186.
