Doves dive as Lions roar

DOVETON seniors were overrun by Pakenham in the last quarter on Saturday to lose a tight game by 17 points and drop back to third on the ladder.
The game started with great speed and the Doves took a nine-point lead into quarter time.
The second quarter saw the Doves make several costly mistakes and allow Pakenham to take advantage of this and a 14-point lead into the main break.
Michael Henry was dangerous up forward, using his pace and awareness around goal and finishing with three goals.
Ryan Brown was the other danger man for the Doves, playing a great game at centre half-forward taking some strong grabs and kicking two goals.
Dave Welling continued his outstanding form of late with another tough and hard-running game on the wing and Ricky Hayes was also good for the Doves, once again proving too strong and agile at centre half-back.
Scores: Doveton 12.10.82 lost to Pakenham 12.27.99.

Doveton was looking to hold onto the double chance and did so with a hard-fought 21-point win.
The game was evenly balanced for three quarters with the Doves trailing at all breaks.
The Doves came home strongly kicking five goals to one in the last quarter and showed their opposition too much run.
Steven Wulf played an excellent game, proving too skilful, kicking three goals and giving the Doves a tall-marking option up forward.
Michael Rodriquez threw his name up for senior selection with another great game and again being able to run forward and kick two goals.
Craig Milne also played well and finished with two goals.
Score: Doveton 13.6.84 d Pakenham 10.3.63.

@BT Sub Sport News:UNDER 18

Like the reserves, the under 18s were also looking to stay in the top three and came away with a convincing 103-point win over Pakenham.
The Doves started well, but were unable to convert, kicking 11 points in the first quarter.
The Doves stayed on top for the remainder of the game and held Pakenham scoreless in the second half and finished strongly with seven goals in the last quarter.
Stephen Henwood played a good game at centre half-forward and took some strong marks and led well. Daniel Ratcliffe also played a good game finding some form in the midfield.
Cam Bell was great up forward, kicking five goals and like Ratcliffe found some well-needed form at the right time of the season.
