Good results for RSL

PENNANT bowls returned at Cranbourne RSL Bowls Club after being abandoned for two consecutive weeks due to weather extremes.
RSL Division Three team had a 125-70 win against the visitors from Carrum, giving RSL the full 18 points and a chance of getting into second position on the ladder and promotion into Division Two.
Barry Burgess, leading a mixed team due to unavailable bowlers, had a resounding win 35-10 against M. Klooger, and after losing the first end got into top gear and won 19 of the next 24 ends to finish 25 shots up.
Ron Halligan’s team also scored well with 34-20 against D. Moncrieff and finished off the last end with a six for good measure.
Darryl Wood’s team was 14 all at the 17th end against A. Ferguson but won eight out of the last nine ends to come out 13 shots up on 28-15.
Barry Jones’ team took turns at leading up to the 19th end when G. Geary won the next four ends putting them four in front on the 22nd.
The Jones boys pulled out a four and a five to clinch the game by three shots and enable RSL to grab the full points with a score of 28-25.
RSL Division six team had a tough battle at Ferntree Gully with two teams up and two down.
Losing by just seven shots overall with the score 95-88, RSL remains on top of the ladder but needs to have good wins in the last two weeks to ensure it stays there and earns the section’s premiership flag.
Bob Preston’s team had a good win 27-19 but had to earn the points as the local conditions were difficult to manage.
Doug Ambrose’s team had a disastrous start to be 1-13 down in the early part of the game and had to claw its way back to emerge winner with six shots up on 25-19.
Shane Riddiford’s team put in a lot of effort but could not hold off the Gully boys and got pipped by six shots, 26-20.
Garry Lacey’s team was up against the strongest team and was behind all day and unable to overcome the better side, enduring one of its few defeats for the year, 31-16.
