Cause for thanks

CASEY mayor Kevin Bradford has taken the opportunity to congratulate the city’s volunteers for their work in making a positive difference to their community.
Cr Bradford said National Volunteers Week, from 15 -21 May, was people’s opportunity to salute Casey’s heroes, donate to a worthy cause and, if they could, change the world by becoming a volunteer themselves.
“On behalf of my fellow councillors, we extend our sincerest thanks to all volunteers in Casey for their contribution.
The work of volunteers actually saves governments at all levels and, in turn, saves the community millions of dollars every year,” he said.
During National Volunteers Week, the red V flag, the universal symbol of volunteering, will be flying at the City of Casey’s Civic Centre in Narre Warren to recognise the efforts of volunteers who give their knowledge, time and skills tirelessly.
Cr Bradford has also encouraged residents to recognise National Volunteers Week and remember to thank the volunteers around them who help make Casey such a great place to live.
“Our local halls, community centres, service clubs or sporting clubs and associations would not operate without the efforts of local residents donating their time and skills. Residents with special needs, similarly, may rely heavily on their volunteer carers to manage tasks that others may take for granted,” Cr Bradford added. There is wide range of volunteering opportunities around Casey. For information on how to find a cause that will suit particular interests and skills contact the City of Casey’s Community Development team on 9705 5200 or visit www.casey.vic .gov.au/volunteers to view more than 200 volunteer positions on offer throughout Casey.
