Footy day is boost for boy

A NARRE Warren South school is banding behind a three-year-old boy who has been blinded by cancer.
Today (Thursday) Narre Warren South P-12 College is due to host the first of two fundraising events in support of Tyler Fishlock who lost both eyes to a rare form of the disease.
Year 11 Victorian Certificate of Applied Learning (VCAL) students have organised a Homestead Football Day where students in years seven and eight will participate in a range of football related activities to raise funds for Tyler.
His plight has received much media coverage.
Tyler is an avid Richmond supporter and two members from the AFL club have also thrown their weight behind the event with players Kane Pettifer and Troy Simmonds set to attend.
Students will make a gold coin donation to participate in the events and funds will go towards Tyler’s education.
The second fundraising event will be held on Thursday, 15 June where a number of local schools will come together to compete for the Tyler Fishlock-AND1 Trophy in Basketball tournament at the Sport for All Indoor Sports Stadium in Cranbourne.
VCAL student Daniel Windsor is one of the event organisers and said students were keen to use their personal development subject to assist someone in the community.
“We looked at the articles on Tyler from early in the year and felt that we could help to make a difference to his life by organising some events that students at our school and in other schools would also enjoy.
“We hope that both days are a real success in raising awareness for people that everyone has the ability to help somebody less fortunate,” he said.
VCAL teacher Kelly Lackmann said students had put an enormous amount of work into both events.
“We have made the focus of our personal development program the need to give something back to the community.
“Within that framework students can choose a project of their own design to implement.
“We are also very appreciative of the support we have received from local businesses and other organisations,” she said.
Many local businesses have thrown their support behind the fundraising drive including the Sport for All Stadium Cranbourne, basketball company “AND1,” Garleigh Trophies, Casey Arc, Village Cinemas Fountain Gate, Paul Sadler Swimland, McDonald’s, Red Rooster, Sportsco Cranbourne, Rebel Sport Fountain Gate, the Melbourne Tigers Basketball Club, Bendigo Bank, Uncle Sam’s Chicken Bar, EXPE Hair Design, Noodles and Moore and New Profile Hair Design.
