Police plead for slow down

WINTRY weather conditions have prompted police to urge motorists to drive with more caution.
Acting Senior Sergeant Nicholas Vallas of Narre Warren police also urged car owners to ensure their vehicles were roadworthy and check that their tyres and brakes were up to scratch.
Casey has recorded two road fatalities this year – one in February when a 43-year-old Hampton Park man was killed in Doveton and an incident on Friday night when a 72-year-old Narre Warren man died.
It is yet to be determined whether the most recent collision will be added to the municipality’s road toll as police believe the man probably suffered a heart attack before impact.
Casey recorded 17 road deaths last year, the highest number in Victoria. Sen Sgt Vallas said it was fortunate that there had been few road fatalities in 2006 but said drivers needed to continue to be vigilant.
“Drivers should maintain a safe braking distance, drive at a safe speed and adapt to the conditions,” he said.
