AN INTERNATIONAL visitor mourning the death of a family member was savagely bashed in Narre Warren South last week.
Police said the 25-year-old Cambodian man was walking along Ormond Road between 7pm and 8pm on Thursday, 29 March when a man approached him from behind.
The victim was chased to the roundabout at Ormond Road and Amberley Park Drive before the man produced a piece of wood and demanded the visitor’s phone. The man hit the victim with the piece of wood several times and then continued to punch him in the head.
Police said a second man then joined the attack by smashing a bottle on the ground and threatening the victim with the broken bottle. Both men then continued to assault the victim before running to a waiting red coloured vehicle and leaving the area. Another two men were seen waiting in the get away car.
One attacker is described as being between 20 to 30 years old, 180 to 185cm tall, medium build, moustache and short beard. He was wearing a singlet, short pants and work boots.
Police are appealing for witnesses to the attack and have asked for any people who were at a parent-teacher interview night in the area and may have seen something to call Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000.
