Bags to fix a woofy problem

THE City of Casey is trialling providing dog poo bags at council reserves to help tackle the escalating problem of dog poo in public places.
Dogs are known as man’s best friend, however, dog poo is nobody’s friend.
The Ray Bastin Reserve in Narre Warren, Sydney Pargeter Reserve in Endeavour Hills and Minihan’s Reserve in Cranbourne have been selected as trial locations for the bags.
City of Casey manager for engineering and environment David Richardson said the trial aimed to assess the effectiveness of having disposal bins and bag dispensers readily available to the community.
“Dog waste is high in nutrients and often burns grass or plants.
“It also contains a lot of harmful bacteria, so it’s important to properly dispose of it either by putting it in a bag and placing it in your garbage or composting it,” he said.
Council’s local law requires that if your dog poos in public, you have to pick it up, otherwise there could be a fine of $107.
