TRISTAN Waldegrave will live every soccer player’s dream this Saturday when he graces the pitch before Australia’s match against Uruguay in Sydney.
The Narre Warren South boy was one of only a lucky few to win a Qantas competition that will result in the eight-year-old walking out on to Telstra Stadium in front of up to 80,000 fans.
Soccer-loving Tristan, along with his equally obsessed father Michael, flew out of Melbourne yesterday (Wednesday) so the youngster could prepare for the big night.
Both play soccer for Doveton Soccer Club and both will be just as excited watching the game, according to Tristan.
“My favourite player is Archie Thompson. That is my nickname at soccer because I look like him,” Tristan said.
Liverpool star Harry Kewell has to settle for second position on Tristan’s hero list.
“I play striker in the under eights and have scored once this year,” he said.
The Southern Cross Primary School grade two student said he would be thrilled to get the chance to walk out next to Thompson.
“It will be lots of fun. I get days off school, too.”
