CASEY motorists will soon have many reminders not to flout the 50 km/h speed zones in residential streets.
Residents residing in a 50 km/h speed zone area in the City of Casey now have the opportunity to participate in Casey’s new ‘50 In My Street’ speed reduction initiative.
Casey, in partnership with Victoria Police and RoadSafe Outer South East Community Road Safety Council, encourages local residents to place a ‘50 In My Street’ sticker on their green domestic waste bin.
Casey mayor Colin Butler said the sticker is one way to make sure drivers behave responsibly in our residential areas.
“When the bins are put out weekly, they act as a mobile speed sign reminding motorists to stick to the 50 km/h limit.”
Following a successful trial in Narre Warren South, the program is now available to all residents living in a 50 km/h area in Casey.
“This low cost program encourages residents to take an active role in building community spirit against speeding motorists. It also raises driver awareness of the acceptable speed limit in local streets,” Cr Butler said.
To participate in this community-based speed education program, residents can contact the City of Casey on 9705 5200 to arrange a sticker to be mailed to them.
All careless and irresponsible driving, which can compromise the safety of local residents and other road users, should be reported to Casey’s Hoon Hotline on 1800 18 HOON (1800 184 666).
