Ward boundaries may change

CASEY Council elections are on the horizon and two ward boundaries may change in the lead-up to the big day.
The Victorian Electoral Commission (VEC) has recommended alterations to the boundaries between Four Oaks Ward and Edrington Ward.
The VEC report was conducted to make sure each resident’s vote has the same value.
More than 2000 voters have been affected with the change which will result in part of Edrington Ward being absorbed by Four Oaks Ward.
Local Government Minister Richard Wynne has been sent the report and will make the final decision.
VEC electoral commissioner Steve Tully said: “In preparing its report, the VEC considered a range of information including submissions made in response to its Proposed Ward Boundaries Report. The recommended new ward boundaries have been designed to allow the one vote, one value principle to apply at the November council elections.”
Under the Local Government Act, the purpose of an electoral subdivision review is to consider the location of ward boundaries so they can provide equitable representation.
A subdivision review does not allow for changes to the current number of councillors, voting method or ward names.
