Awards make a call for kindness

NOMINATIONS are now being sought for the 2008 Lindsay King Arts Initiative Award.
The award is in memory of the late Lindsay King who made substantial contributions in Casey through his passion for local history, tourism, arts and culture and aims to acknowledge and recognise the achievements of an individual who contributes to supporting arts in the City of Casey.
To be eligible for the Lindsay King Arts Initiative Award, nominees must be a current or previous member of a non-profit community-based art organisation based in, or servicing residents in Casey or an individual artist who provides expertise on a voluntary basis.
All of the nominees will be invited to the annual Mayoral Arts Dinner held at Cranbourne’s Balla Balla Centre on Monday 4 August.
City of Casey mayor Janet Halsall said she strongly encourages the community to consider nominating someone who has made a difference to the arts in Casey.
“The award is a great chance for the wider community to acknowledge a community member who makes time in their lives to take time for others,” she said. “It will give them the opportunity to be publicly thanked and recognised.”
Nominations for the 2008 Lindsay King Arts Initiative Award close at 5pm on Monday 30 June.
A copy of the nomination form is available from Casey’s website, www.casey.vic.gov.au or by contacting the council’s arts development coordinator Sue Helmot on 9705 5200.
