Cars hit in crime spree

POLICE say thieves are now targeting cars in residential areas with more than 16 cars being broken into in Berwick, Narre Warren and Endeavour Hills last weekend.
Detective Senior Sergeant Steve Gaskin said the items stolen included global positioning systems (GPS units), lap top computers, CD players and cash.
According to police, some of the hot spots in Narre Warren included Wallowa Crescent, Pimento Close, Glasscocks Road, Beauford Avenue and Magid Drive.
Two cars in Berwick’s Outlook Drive were hit over the weekend with cash being stolen.
Det Sen Sgt Gaskin is warning drivers to stop playing into the hands of thieves by leaving valuables in vehicles.
“Most of the thefts are smash and grabs and it only takes the offender less than a minute to break in and steal an item,” he said.
“Ninety-five per cent of offenders look into the car before they break in.”
