$13 million for waste, recycling

- Kelly Yates– Kelly Yates

CITY of Casey Council’s waste management program for garbage, green waste and recycling services has been allocated $13.1 million from the 2008-09 budget.
More than 901 tonnes of garbage, 564 tonnes of recycling and 474 tonnes of garden waste is collected from local households each week.
The environmental services are also involved with programs and activities such as the Growing a Green Web program, which sees about 15,000 trees and shrubs planted annually, the Arbor Week plant giveaway and the environmental expo at Wilson Botanic Park.
A primary reason many people choose to live in Casey is for its beautiful open spaces.
Casey has more than 400 parks, 200 playgrounds and more than 50 recreation reserves.
Council has set aside $325,000 for works at additional parks and reserves and the appointment of officers with turf management and sustainable garden expertise.
