NARRE Warren fireman Adam Smibert took his fire and road safety act to Phillip Island for the Australian Motorcycle Grand Prix earlier this month.
Smibert, who also competed in a Superstock motorcycle support event during the weekend, said it gave him the opportunity to speak to a lot of people about MFB – or Melbourne Fire Brigade – racing.
His two biggest passions in life are working in the fire brigade at Wheelers Hill Fire Station and racing motorcycles, so being able to combine them is a dream come true for him.
Honda made the dream possible by providing two Honda CBR motorcycles for Smibert’s use – one to help with community education and another to roar around the track in competition.
He is the face of MFB racing, taking the show all over Victoria, to fetes, schools and open days and he is currently at the Royal Melbourne Show for the school holidays.
His road bike accompanies him on his travels around the state and the power-packed machine successfully works as a youth-magnet.
“We try to attract an audience we don’t normally get to,” he said.
“We take photos with the kids, give them posters and talk to them about safety. It gives them a constant reminder of what they need to do.”
His best result, as far as the racing went, was 33rd, as he competed against some of the best riders in the country.
“It was great racing in front of a large crowd, I’m very lucky,” he said.
