CASEY businesses have helped out a Christian program with a $500 donation.
The Casey Referral Network, an organisation representing 30 local businesses, have given the money to support Christians Helping in Primary Schools (CHIPS) in the community.
CHIPS is a non-profit organisation formed by 2005 Casey Citizen of the Year Eric Wieckmann.
Mr Wieckmann was thrilled with the support from the business group and said the money would be put to good use.
“It was a lovely surprise that they would donate the money,” Mr Wieckmann said.
CHIPS is a link between local Christian churches and primary schools and provides love, support and encouragement to the student community.
“We are only a very small organisation but we hit above our weight because we have such a large volunteer base.
“A small amount goes a long way for CHIPS because we have such a large volunteer base,” he said.
Mr Wieckmann said there is about 450 volunteers who give up their time to help make the CHIPS program such a success.
The $500 donation is set to help 10 disadvantaged Casey children and let them attend one of the many camps run by CHIPS.
Casey Referral Network chairman Darius Mikolajewski said his group is proud to support CHIPS.
The work of CHIPS “has been acknowledged by council and welfare organisations as being of utmost importance in an area where it is desperately needed,” Mr Mikolajewski said.
