A TEAM-FIRST attitude played a major role in the Casey Comets’ under 13 boys’ side claiming this season’s title, according to head coach Ian Davey.
The squad dominated the Boys East 13 B competition in 2007, winning 15 of its 18 matches with two draws and only one loss, to finish six points clear of its nearest rival.
To highlight the Comets’ supremacy further, they scored 41 goals while allowing just six into their own net.
Davey, in his first year as coach of the club, was overjoyed with the triumph, which will see the team move into the Boys East 14 A league next year.
“It is absolutely brilliant and a credit to the boys,” he said.
“The reason they won the league was because rain, shine, snow or whatever, they turned up for training every single time.
“There is no superstar, no ball hog, and if they had the opportunity to pass they’d do it.”
Aaron Toth was Casey’s leading goalkicker with 17 goals from his deadly left foot, and defender Frankie Pap won the players’ player of the year award.
