Chips are down to save pets

THE City of Casey’s sixth Microchipping Day for cats and dogs has been dubbed an outstanding success with 859 pets microchipped and 266 registered.
The day was held at the Narre Warren Civic Centre on Saturday, and Casey’s manager customer service Rob Colling said he was extremely pleased with the response because it showed a high level of responsible pet ownership by Casey’s domestic pet owners.
“Microchipping is the best way to identify cats and dogs, so the pet owners who took advantage of the reduced cost microchipping event now have a much greater chance of being reunited with their pet should it become lost and have no collar,” he said.
Local qualified veterinarians conducted the microchipping, which was offered at the significantly reduced rate of $20 per animal, on the day.
Mr Colling said despite the threatening weather it was a great day with pet owners enjoying the free sausage sizzle, and taking advantage of dog wash facilities and pet supply stalls at the event.
The City of Casey acknowledged sponsor Nature’s Gift and local community groups and businesses that supported the event, including Microchips Australia, Community Safety Department, Lions Club, Narre Warren Veterinary Clinic, Pets @ Home, South Eastern Animal Emergency Centre, Home Ice Cream, Lonely Pets Club, Sweethearts Mobile Dog Hydrobath and Berwick Boarding Kennels and Cattery.
