TOP Sydney trainer Gai Waterhouse has resisted trialing her spring hopes in Melbourne in past years, but did so at Cranbourne recently with stunning results.
Her star duo Tuesday Joy and Desert War ran encouraging trials at the Cranbourne Training Complex on Friday, 27 October and then came out on Victoria Derby day to win the top prizes in two of the day’s biggest races.
Tuesday Joy won the $300,000 Group 2 Wakeful Stakes, while three events later, Desert War led from start to finish in the $750,000 Group 1 Mackinnon Stakes.
Just to top off a cracking day at the office, Ms Waterhouse’s final runner on the program, Dance Hero, saluted in the $500,000 Group 1 Salinger Stakes.
The form of her two runners at Cranbourne was exceptional, and the work topped off Ms Waterhouse’s horses before their triumphs in the races.
Tuesday Joy will attempt to back her great form up in today’s (Thursday’s) $750,000 Group 1 Crown Oaks at Flemington, in which she has been installed as the $2.40 favourite.
Cranbourne tune-up for Gai’s joy
