Cricket grows at Casey Fields

THE facilities for Casey South Melbourne Cricket Club at Casey Fields are going ahead at a rapid rate.
The club’s administration manager Rob Hansen said last week that the pavilion was rapidly nearing the fitout stage and looked impressive.
“Able to seat more than 70 patrons in the dining area, the building is testimony to strong planning by the City of Casey,” he said.
Mr Hansen said it contained a very serviceable kitchen able to cater for normal cricket matches as well as functions.
“The change-room facilities also cater for up to four teams on match day. Architecturally all the buildings blend into the overall scheme that displays a wavy appearance from the roof line,” he said.
Mr Hansen said, regarding the timeline, the on-site manager had said it was right on schedule for completion of the building by late August with a handover in September.
“The plumbers will start the fit-out almost immediately and the painters will follow them. The final fit-out will be done after that,” he said.
Mr Hansen said regarding the ovals, the City of Casey groundsmen had been busy preparing the wicket table and the oval surface.
“The turf table consists of Santa Ana couch laid over the top of Merri Creek soil and is quickly taking shape,” he said.
“Rolling has taken place to bed the entire table in tightly.
Mr Hansen said the oval had been recently sprayed and the Santa Ana couch surface was lying dormant waiting for some warmer weather to really kick in and start becoming prolific.
“All the practice facilities are almost ready with a suite of turf pitches as well as harder wickets for inclement weather,” he said.
Casey South Melbourne Cricket Club begins its pre-season practice in early July.
