PAST and present members of the Berwick Fire Brigade are set to come together and commemorate 80 years of service to the local community.
The brigade is holding a reunion on the afternoon of Saturday, 6 May, and is currently trying to make contact with all past members.
Anyone who served with the urban or former rural brigade, or the ladies auxiliary, is welcome to attend.
Second Lieutenant Peter Obeth has been a volunteer with the Berwick CFA for 23 years and said they were hoping about 200 people would attend the reunion.
He said he thought that a lot of current and former members would really enjoy getting together and reflecting on the past.
Lt Obeth said he had made some good friends over the past three decades and thought the reunion could possibly help rekindle some old friendships.
“I think the members and ex-members will get a lot out of it.
“For some men who were at the station in the 1960s and 70s and who have not been near the station for a long time, it will be a bit of a trip down memory lane for them,” he said.
Lt Obeth said he organised official brigade photos every six years and the group shots were due to be taken again this year.
“I thought with the 80-year anniversary, it would be good to get everyone together for a shot,” he said.
He said they were also trying to organise some old fire trucks for the event.
A database of addresses is being compiled for official invitations to be sent out. If you are a past member, or know the contact details for someone who may have left the district, please contact Peter Obeth on 9707 3506 (after hours) or 0407 537 267.
