EUMEMMERRING College student Jeremy Yuen is doing his best to become the next Spielberg or Lucas of the film world.
The year-eight Gleneagles campus student recently won the Victorian Khootz competition – an event involving the creation of a short animated movie using specific computer software.
Jeremy, 13, impressed judges and blitzed the field with his feature ‘Sith Wars’ – a creative take on the Star Wars series.
He took home $500 of prizes for his first place along with the prestige of winning the award that was selected from hundreds of entries from across Victoria.
Teacher Lyn Spooner said the students had enjoyed learning the language of film and all the different techniques used.
“It is fantastic to see the high standard of work completed by our students recognised as the best in Victoria.
“It is particularly pleasing to see students’ enthusiasm in using this software to produce very creative work,” Ms Spooner said.
She said Jeremy was one of many Gleneagles students who succeeded with their animated projects.
“The students voted on which film we would send in for the awards and Jeremy’s film was chosen.”
“The judges commented that his work was outstanding and that even the designers of the software didn’t know how he did it,” Ms Spooner said.
