THE City of Casey is aiming to strike up an Access for All Abilities Program at local tenpin bowling centres.
People with a disability are being encouraged to take part in a number of fun lawn bowls and tenpin bowling opportunities available in the municipality.
The Access for All Abilities program develops and supports a diverse range of sport and leisure environments that are inclusive and accessible to people with a disability.
Casey manager of arts and leisure Robyn Bowen said: “There are a number of sport and recreation opportunities available in the City of Casey for people to participate in and bowling is just one of them.
“Taking part in bowling is a great way to meet people, get active and have fun in a safe environment.”
The City of Casey, in partnership with Royal Victorian Bowls Association and Victorian Ladies’ Bowling Association, is seeking expressions of interest from the community regarding the introduction of a lawn bowls program available to people with a disability.
A Junior Pinbusters program is also being run at the Narre Warren Superbowl, 22 Lauderdale Road, on Saturdays at 12pm. Junior bowlers with a disability aged 12 years and under are welcome to come along and have some fun. The cost is $6 per game, which includes shoe hire.
At Bowland, 65 Berwick-Cranbourne Road, Cranbourne, a new tenpin bowling league is starting and is open to all individuals with a disability.
The program is run on Thursdays at 10am and costs $5, which includes one game, shoe hire, trophies and a luncheon at the end of the season.
For information on any of the tenpin bowling programs or to express your interest about the introduction of a lawn bowls program, contact Casey’s Access for All Abilities project officer Kirsty Beattie on 9705 5200, TTY 9705 5568 or TIS (Translating and Interpreting Services) 131 450 or email caseycc@casey.vic.gov.au.
