PEARCEDALE motorbike prospect Kade Mosig is preparing to take all before him in the first round of the Supercross Summer Nationals series at Tooradin Recreation Reserve on Saturday night.
Mosig, 18, has just completed his first year with factory giant Honda and is looking forward to performing in front of his local fans.
“There are not many races so close to home,” the four-time national junior champion said.
“I’ll be racing against two of my main competitors – Matt Moss and Ryan Marmont – and I’ve beaten both of them before, so I’m hoping to win.”
The talented rider has been tearing around in motocross and supercross ranks for nine years, travelling all over the country and to New Zealand.
But Mosig, who idolises superstars of the sport Ricky Carmichael and Chad Reed, has a much loftier aim in his sights.
“I’m hoping to go over to America at the end of this year. I’ll try and get a ride over there and eventually move over full-time,” he said.
“It’s not definite at the moment, but, if I do, it will be for the last few rounds of the American nationals.”
The Supercross Summer Nationals is a new event on the Australian racing calendar and the second and final round of the competition will be run at Dubbo Speedway on 1 March.
It kicks off the year for the nation’s top riders ahead of the nine-round Australian Motocross Championship, which starts in April.
Mosig debuted in the championship in the Pro Lites category on a 250cc four-stroke motorbike in 2006 and managed a ninth placing.
He then went three spots better in finishing sixth in the open class on a 450cc four-stroke motorbike last year.
But the impressive teenager is returning to the Pro Lites this season and has one goal in mind – victory.
“It’s sort of the same as any sport. We all talk and say g’day, but on race day, we’re there to do our job and they’re there to do the same thing,” Mosig said.
“People don’t realise how hard (the sport) is. It’s been rated as the second most physical and mental sport in the world.”
Mosig endures three sessions a week with a personal trainer, is on his motorbike almost every day and also swims and cycles to maintain peak condition.
Saturday night’s event begins at 7pm, with gates opening at 4pm.
