CRANBOURNE Turf Club held its traditional Ladies Day race meeting last Thursday with a happy crowd enjoying the day’s festivities and a good afternoon of racing.
Two Cranbourne trained horses saluted with Doug Harrison’s Northern Dan piloted to the post first by Jason Benbow in the opening race, followed by Robbie Griffiths’ three-year old maiden French King, ridden by Brad Rawiller, taking out the second race on the program. Both horses started as favourites.
Another highlight of the day was the win of Pakenham trainer Brian Rowe’s talented gelding First Militia in the Class 1 handicap. The horse was ridden by Michelle Payne who is on the comeback trail after a serious fall several months ago.
