THE nearly completed Lynbrook Village Shopping Centre plans to celebrate its opening with a four-day community event and street parade.
The centre is due to open in mid-March with celebrations including a parade leading up to the official opening ceremony and a community stage to showcase local groups and performers.
Lynbrook Village spokeswoman Cheryl Wood said the parade would run through the “streets” of the centre, and feature prominent Melbourne group Batacuda and the Community Drummers as well as children from Lynbrook Primary School and other community organisations.
“We have had a lot of interest from the community to be part of the opening and we are still keen to get more people and groups involved in both the street parade and the community stage,” Ms Wood said.
The centre is also calling for members of the community to act as volunteers during the opening promotion and assist with tasks such as handing out balloons and giveaways.
“In return for their efforts, volunteers will receive rewards that can be redeemed at the various stores in the centre,” Ms Wood said.
Construction on the centre began last June. It will open with a new Coles Supermarket, Liquorland and about 28 specialty stores.
Retailers include ANZ Bank, Lindens Fresh Meat and Poultry, Hampton Park First National, MPRE, Lynbrook Medical Centre, Donut King, Freckles Ice Creamery and Juice Bar, Zeebox Noodles, Civic Video, Clarke’s Bargain Basement Gifts, Pharmacy Select, Brumby’s Bakery, Vision One Eyecare, Foiled Again Hair Salon, Healthy Glow Beauty Clinic, Eating House Restaurant, Flakey Jake’s Fish and Chips, Haircuts@Lynbrook, Zacharo Pattisserie, Bumble Bee Florist, Lynbrook Newsagent and Lotto, Body Bronze Tanning Salon, Lynbrook Village Fruit Plaza, Lynbrook Drycleaner and Flight Centre.
