THERE was lots of walking and talking last week when the heart of Doveton’s community celebrated its 30th birthday.
The Doveton Neighbourhood Learning Centre held a walk-and-talk luncheon on Wednesday, 6 September to mark its three-decade milestone.
Local residents, students and community groups came out in force to celebrate and find more out about the wonderful employment and learning opportunities available in Doveton.
As part of the days events there was a community painting day, adult learners week presentations, information stalls run by local service providers, library information sessions and show bag giveaways and lucky door prizes.
A feature of the day was two community walks, which were designed to link participants with local service providers.
A learning centre representative led each walk, providing interesting information about Adult Learners Week to all walkers and answering many questions and inspiring local residents to learn.
The walks were followed by a delicious luncheon provided by the centre’s resident volunteer chef, Lesley Floyd.
Year 9 students from Doveton Secondary College played a big part in the community day, along with employment agencies including the Salvation Army, Try Youth, Link Employment, Apprenticeships Victoria, Centrelink and Ageing Positively in Casey.
Learning agencies presented include Early Years, Wellsprings for Women, Dandenong Community House, Endeavour Hills Uniting Care Neighbourhood Centre and Hallam Community Centre.
