EUMEMMERRING Primary School is basking in the glow of $5000 it won in a recent community grant.
The school library will be the big winner with the 30-year old building getting a much-needed facelift with the money.
The grant was the first to be awarded through the Soy Life Community Fund.
The program was launched in September and aims to support community groups, projects and clubs by offering them a cash injection of $5000.
New shelving will sit alongside modern furniture and the walls will be given a glossy makeover in an effort to make the library more inviting to students.
School council member and parent Anne Vella nominated the school for the fund after recognising a need for a facelift.
“At present, the library is very unwelcoming. I have done several colourful displays in the past to try to brighten it up, but the novelty never lasts very long,” she said.
Ms Vella said an upgrade would help bring students into the library and foster their interest in reading.
“We need to attract the students to the library so they will use the resources we have more effectively,” she said.
Soy Life product manager Mel Black said Eumemmerring Primary School was a perfect example of why the fund was launched.
“We are delighted to be able to give this cash award to such a deserving project. To know that the grant will go towards encouraging children into the library and reading makes it extremely worthwhile and rewarding,” Ms Black said.
More $5000 grants can be won.
