THE Narre Warren State Emergency Service’s (SES) open day was dubbed a huge success with many potential volunteers turning out to hear how they can help the community.
More than 40 people came to the open day on Saturday, and more than 15 signed up as volunteers.
Narre Warren SES media officer Kanny Lee said they were pleased with the result and the new recruits would now undergo a police check before beginning their probationary period.
SES volunteers conducted various demonstrations during the morning, highlighting the rescue equipment crews used and the training on offer to new recruits.
Demonstrations included rescuing trapped people from cliff tops and from underneath trailers.
Members were also on hand to answer any questions and also spoke about and showed photos of the many callouts the Narre Warren SES has attended.
The unit is currently looking for members who are available during the day or evening to be part of its duty crew.
It is also keen to attract people who can assist with administration duties and fundraising.
