THE parents of a man burnt in the boot of a car in Narre Warren North have pleaded for help to catch his killers.
Elie and Helen Daou made an emotional public appeal yesterday (Wednesday) in the hope that someone may come forward with information about the murder of their son, Michael Daou.
Police believe Doncaster resident Mr Daou, 22, was abducted from Scoresby by up to five men between 12.40am and 1.20am on 18 November last year.
Narre Warren East CFA members discovered his charred remains after they extinguished a car fire on Mountain Flat Road about five hours later.
He had suffered several gunshot wounds to his upper body before he was burnt.
Ms Daou was extremely distraught during the conference and had to be assisted away after making her tearful plea.
She said Michael was a good man. A week before he died, he had apologised to his parents for going down the “wrong track”, Ms Daou said.
“I want my son back. I want my baby back. He did not deserve to die like this,” she said.
Homicide Squad Senior Sergeant Charlie Bezzina said a number of witnesses had come forward after hearing screaming and cars around Red Court in Scoresby.
“We are quite confident that we will soon get to the bottom of this.
“We just need to put a few pieces together and we are asking the public to assist us with this,” Sen Sgt Bezzina said.
Sen Sgt Bezzina confirmed that Mr Daou was involved in the drug trade up until the time of his death, but said this involvement was not to a “major” extent.
Police believe he knew his attackers and the meeting was prearranged.
He said police had been closely looking at Mr Daou’s associates following his death.
Sen Sgt Bezzina encouraged a woman who called Crime Stoppers on 8 December regarding the murder to call back as police believe she has valuable information.
Father Elie Daou said his son was a good man who had helped a lot of people and was trying to get his life back on track before he died.
“Everyone makes mistakes in their lives. He was a very good boy,” he said.
He encouraged anyone who saw or knew anything about his son’s death to contact police.
Anyone with information about the murder is asked to contact Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000.
