A SUSPENDED driver was to face criminal charges following a two-car collision in Doveton on Saturday that left one back-seat passenger trapped.
The accident was one of three collisions in the Hallam and Doveton areas within hours on Saturday night and kept local police and emergency services extremely busy.
The most serious collision was about 11.05pm at the intersection of the Princes Highway and South Gippsland Freeway in Doveton.
Two cars collided at the traffic light-controlled intersection, a Holden Commodore with five occupants and a Mazda sedan with a woman driver.
Senior Constable Brad Treloar of Endeavour Hills police said a Hampton Park teenager had been trapped in the back seat of the Commodore following the collision and the Dandenong Fire Brigade rescue crew had worked to free him.
Another rear passenger, a teenager from Harkaway, also sustained injuries and Sen Const Treloar said both she and the Hampton Park resident were taken to Dandenong Hospital for treatment.
Sen Const Treloar said the driver of the Mazda was lucky to escape injury. Later, police said an 18-year-old Cranbourne man, who was inside the Commodore, was to be charged on summons with driving while suspended, failing to stop at a red light and leaving the scene of an accident.
He was to appear at the Dandenong Magistrates’ Court at a later date.
The Hallam CFA also attended the collision.
